How to get noticed in your field

Write a book!

Try to get it published by a big company.

If you tried doing that, but got rejected by the publishers or agents…

Write a smaller book. Write a short e-book.

Share it free online.

In time, thousands of people will see it, and become familiar with your name and what you do.

How to make an ebook

An ebook, or e-book is just a file. It’s usually a pdf file.

The good thing about pdf files, is that just about 99% computers can open it. I’m just estimating, I don’t really know how much, but the ones which can’t view pdf files probably don’t deserve to read your ebook.

Look at your available software. Make a new file, and go to Save As or Export. See if you can save documents as a PDF file.

Write and write, rewrite and read what you have written. Edit, add or take out what you think should or should not be included. Put pictures and illustrations as needed.

Then go to Save As… and save the file as an uneditable pdf file.

Then post it in your blog, or forward it to key people who might forward it some more to others, or post it in forums. Join filesharing torrents like Azureus. Make sure your file has keywords in the title or the description.

Observe how many people begin to download your file, in less than a day. In less than a month, more and more people will have your ebook.

Once in a while, Google your name and the title of your book, and request those websites and blogs who are sharing your ebook, to mention some more information about you.

How to Have a Useful Business to Business Website

If you want related businesses to discover you, here is how it can be done.

1. Attend the huge conventions, get the convention books - the original and the errata, which list all the exhibitors and what they have.

2. Go to all the different booths, take pamphlets, business cards and whatever else they have. Take some of their free samples, like frisbees and pens.

3. Place everything in boxes in the shipping department, and ship them to your home or office.

4. Take pictures and videos of your trip. If someone wants to talk to your camcorder, let them talk.

5. When you get back to your home base, sort through everything you have. Scan what you can scan.

6. Brainstorm and find ways to help everyone or a majority in your field through one or a few websites.

7. Share your photographs and videos. Use YouTube to store your videos if you want.

8. Make interrelated websites - it could be a blog, a forum or more, like a directory. Have even more functionality, like a way where people can post what they want or find what they need from other users or a blog or showcase of new products. Have a section for press releases and diligently post them as they get faxed or emailed to you. One of the better ways you can almost be sure that everyone will want to come to your site, is to have a job board.

9. Let everyone know, make them register and place your own agenda on top of every page.

10. There will come a point when other companies will take notice and even send you samples which you can raffle away to your users, or give to your friends.

11. Look into publishing a newsletter.

12. AUTOMATE AS MANY OF THESE AS POSSIBLE, including making forms so that everyone who is allowed to contribute up-to-date articles will be able to just type away stuff, and easily upload pictures and even videos.

13. If you can’t do all this, call me.

How I Attracted Visitors in the Past

I know what I’m going to tell you is almost like a waste of time and space, but for purposes of attracting visitors just for the heck, it will work. However, you might have a mission of just concentrating on your own information, so this would be a useless suggestion. I can’t even say that this is a suggestion.

This is useless for companies doing business, but if you are just a hobbyist, or just learning to code, then this is a good way to practice.

The CIA produces an annual profile of countries. It’s called The World Factbook, and it’s free. I’ve seen the same information published like an informative, encyclopedia type of a book, but I’m sure the information was free to be had anyway. Some publisher simply put everything together and sold it in the bargain bin. I could be wrong.

Copy and paste each country, tab the information correctly, do whatever you have to do, and get everything to a table in a MySQL database.

Then design a single page that would show a single country, and use that as a template. Copy and rename the file to produce different countries, and use PHP to dip into the database.

So there you go! You will have more than 180 pages of more than 180 countries and continents and whatever else, which provide information to the public. Make a site map or another page listing all of the countries in one place.

Add some ads which might make you some money!

Let’s say you have 5 pages of your interest, and you’re not sure if anyone is going to come visit your 5-page information. Now, you will have more than 180 pages of countries, and these visitors just might click through your other 5 pages.

Consider the exercise as like producing billboards on a highway. Some people look, some people don’t. It’s a numbers game, plus it’s an excuse to practice what you know.

I have been talking about my ideas to people, including my internet ideas that just might make a lot of money.

Why do I share them?

It’s because I have also noticed, that ideas take time to implement.

Especially internet ideas.

This means that it doesn’t really matter what you talk about. It’s just for healthy conversation and exchange of - exactly - just ideas.

I have noticed that people would talk about their own ideas, but if you don’t have the heart to implement it, even if you have the know-how, chances are, that idea won’t be stolen anyway. Even if you have the know-how, you will also know that the implementation can take a long time, and you will have to have the heart to do it. You also have to accept that you can also be so unoriginal enough to work on someone else’s idea, because you don’t have one yourself.

Years ago, I finally bought a cable modem, and then I finally bought a wireless router. I also finally bought a laptop.

Then I encountered problems with my laptop, my desktop and the router. So I called the 800 numbers, one after the other.

The tech support people from the different companies, it turned out, were located in different countries. I discovered that there was an industry to outsource tech support to different countries, because the companies paid less! What a brilliant idea.

At that time, there was also a witch hunt for people in the U.S., I think there still is, who share files illegally in the torrents. Meanwhile, in other countries, files are being shared by people and their governments didn’t care.

I’m not talking about movies and music, but I guess, with all the children in the rest of the world sharing software and learning them, while here, children are being scared from doing so, the rest of the world, in just a matter of a few years has become more tech savvy than the people in the U.S. Is this a good thing?

What’s funny, is that Business 2.0, a magazine which has since been discontinued, which I used to subscribe to, also said that one day, I don’t know if it’s already being done - One day, McDonald’s drive throughs, as an example, will have people from another country taking orders through those speakers and relaying the order to the kitchen just a few feet away from the customer in the car.
